Who is: Tyler Maxwell

The WHL's Everett Silvertips made a bold move this summer, acquiring the #32 pick from the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Landon Ferraro, from the Red Deer Rebels. Also joining the Silvertips this season was Josh Birkholz, picked by Florida in the third round of the 2009 draft. It was thought that these two would carry the bulk of the offensive load for the 'Tips; however, one of Everett's returning players has been their unsung hero.

Tyler Maxwell, a 5'9" left winger, is 20th in WHL scoring this season with 51 points in 41 games - numbers leading the Silvertips in scoring. The most impressive point about Maxwell's season, though, is the fact that he leads the team is doing so by more than double the points as the second-leading scorer on Everett's roster (Ferraro: 25 points in 37 games). In fact, Maxwell has more goals scored than Ferraro has points.

What makes Maxwell even more intriguing is the fact that this season isn't even a breakout campaign for him: last season he finished second in team scoring with 69 points in 72 games.

The odds are against Maxwell getting drafted this year, but if I was the GM of a NHL club I would definitely send him an invite to camp to see what he can do.
