Who Is: Colin Behenna

In catching up on the world of OHL hockey, I just checked out the league's current scoring leaders when one name really stood out. Colin Behenna, a centre for the Barrie Colts, has snuck into 11th place in OHL scoring.

So what's the big deal? Barrie is awful (8-30-2-2) and Behenna leads them in scoring by 12 points; meanwhile, most of the players in the top 20 play for strong clubs.

Behenna's rise in league scoring has occurred during a hot streak which dates back to mid-November: over the past 23 games Behenna has scored 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points, a rate of 1.61 points per game.

Realistically, I can't see Colin getting drafted based on a combination of two huge factors:
  1. His size: 5'8", 157 lbs.
  2. Typically, a '91 birthday faces more scrutiny than most of the draft class, which is filled with late '92-born and '93-born players.
That said, I'm very impressed with Behenna's torrid streak and would love to see him continue to climb the ranks as a feel-good story.
