WJC Players to Watch: Martin Frk
If you've read the entirety of my brief blogging history you'll know I think a lot of Frk, a recent import to the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads. Frk is doing very well in his new environment, being tied for the team lead in points with 31, including a team-leading 20 assists, in 34 games.
Frk, a late '93-born player, is going to be one of the Czech Republic's top offensive weapons, but due to his age and the depth of the Czech team he will likely play more of a depth role to start. Luckily for Frk, his ability to throw his body around will make him an asset even if he's not expected to put up points.
In a tournament full of players 2+ years older than he is, it will be interesting to see how Frk's tournament plays out. Frk's game should translate well, but think of it this way: Frk is not NHL draft-eligible until 2012 but most of these players would have been eligible for the 2009 NHL draft.
Frk definitely has the most star potential of the Czech Republic's forwards, so I hope he manages to work his way up to logging a ton of important minutes while scoring some key goals.
