Players You Won't See at the WJC: Dmitrij Jaskin

I noticed one thing when looking over the Czech's preliminary roster this morning: there was a certain draft-eligible prospect missing, and I don't know why.

Dmitrij Jaskin is a '93-born who is projected to go in the late first-round/early second-round of the 2011 NHL draft. The 6'1", 196 lb. forward has played in 23 games for Slavia Praha's men's team in the Czech Extraliga and has scored 3 goals and 5 assists to go with 12 PIMs. His CHL rights are owned by Calgary who took him with the 60th pick in this year's CHL Import Draft.

Though Jaskin has come up through the Vsetin and Slavia Praha systems in the Czech Republic, the 17 year-old was born in Omsk, Russia, so perhaps that caused some tension in the coaching staff's decision-making process. Otherwise, I can't imagine why a player considered to have Jaskin's upside was left off of the pre-tournament roster - at least give the kid a shot!
